Applications are now open for the MOPGA 2025 fellowship program of the French government for the 2025/26 academic year.

Launched in 2018, the “Make Our Planet Great Again” (MOPGA) program quickly became a magnet for top-tier students and researchers eager to advance their work in France. This fellowship offers international researchers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on global issues.

As a leader in the fight against climate change and a strong advocate for the principles of the Paris Agreement, France is renewing the MOPGA program to bring young researchers to the forefront of global climate challenges, such as those discussed at COP conferences. The fellowship is designed to support research on critical topics like Earth systems, climate change and sustainability, energy transition, and the societal impacts of environmental issues, within French academic institutions.

For this seventh edition, the program aims to attract 40 promising young researchers who are ready to take on impactful research in France. This initiative is supported by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in partnership with Campus France and the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

Benefits of the French Government’s MOPGA 2025 Fellowships

The MOPGA fellowship program, fully funded by the French government, provides the following benefits:

A monthly stipend of 2,500 euros
A relocation allowance of 500 euros
Coverage of health insurance, civil liability, and repatriation assistance until you are affiliated with French Social Security
Coverage of supplementary health insurance, civil liability, and repatriation assistance
Access to resources and materials provided by the host laboratory to ensure successful completion of your research project

Eligibility for the MOPGA Fellowship

To apply for the Make Our Planet Great Again fellowship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Must not be a French national
Be an international researcher who has obtained a PhD within the last 5 years (PhD must have been defended between December 2019 and December 2024)
Must not have resided in France for more than 90 days between October 9, 2023, and January 9, 2024

Selection Process

The selection process for this postdoctoral research fellowship is conducted in two stages. First, applications will be evaluated and scored by scientific experts in the relevant fields. Then, an international selection committee will choose the final MOPGA 2025 fellowship recipients.
