Applications for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Toronto (U of T) are now open for the 2026–2027 academic year.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Toronto offers fully funded Master’s scholarships to exceptional students from Sub-Saharan Africa, enabling them to pursue graduate studies in Canada. The program focuses on fields such as health, biomedical sciences, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, health management, and the social sciences.

Scholarship Value and Benefits

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Toronto is a fully funded opportunity that provides recipients with comprehensive financial support, including:

  1. Travel costs to Canada (including passport and visa application fees)
  2. Tuition fees
  3. Accommodation
  4. Monthly living allowance
  5. Health insurance
  6. Study materials
  7. Other essential expenses

Beyond financial support, scholars benefit from a comprehensive support network and a two-week summer orientation program designed to ease their transition and prepare them for success at U of T.

Eligible Programs

Up to 20 scholarships will be awarded for the 2026–2027 academic year across the following eligible graduate programs:

  1. Master of Engineering (Biomedical Engineering)
  2. Master of Financial Insurance
  3. Master of Health Administration
  4. Master of Health Informatics
  5. MPH – Health Promotion
  6. MPH – Occupational and Environmental Health

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Toronto, applicants must:

  • Be citizens and residents of a Sub-Saharan African country
  • Have recently completed an undergraduate degree from one of the Africa Health Collaborative partner universities:
    1. Addis Ababa University
    2. African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS)
    3. African Leadership University
    4. Amref International University / Amref Health Africa
    5. Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology
    6. Ashesi University
    7. Moi University
    8. University of Cape Town
  • Not have begun graduate-level studies
  • Demonstrate an outstanding academic record and a strong commitment to health or development in their home country
  • Apply for an eligible program at the University of Toronto
