The Government of Canada continues to actively support students from around the world by offering a multitude of generous scholarships to encourage higher education, academic research, and professional exchanges at Canadian universities. These scholarships not only enable students to pursue their studies in Canada but also allow them to explore academic opportunities in their home countries after completing their education.
Below is an updated list of scholarships offered by the Canadian government, including programs sponsored by Canadian governmental organizations and foundations.
1. Canadian Francophonie Scholarships Program (PCBF)
The Canadian Francophonie Scholarships Program (PCBF) aims to strengthen institutional capacities by training nationals from developing member countries of the Francophonie. The Government of Canada fully funds this program.
Beneficiary countries conduct recruitment campaigns to identify qualified candidates. These candidates can then apply for Master’s or Doctorate university programs, technical and professional training, or short-term internships.

2. “Study in Canada” Scholarships
The “Study in Canada” scholarships offer CAD 10,200 for four-month studies or CAD 12,700 for five to six months. They are aimed at international students pursuing undergraduate, Master’s, or Doctorate degrees from eligible countries, enrolled full-time. Criteria include academic excellence and the relevance of the study program. The scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses, and travel costs.

3. Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships, offered by the Canadian government, provide an annual funding of CAD 70,000 for two years, non-renewable. These fellowships aim to attract top researchers in the fields of health, natural sciences, engineering, and social and human sciences. They are open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, as well as foreign researchers.

4. CIFAR Global Scholars
The CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholars program offers CAD 100,000 over two years to support interdisciplinary research of early-career researchers. It aims to develop their research leadership while connecting them to a global network of scholars. To be eligible, candidates must hold a PhD, hold an early-career professorship, and conduct independent research. The program also includes mentorship opportunities and funding for new collaborations.
CIFAR is a charitable organization supported by the governments of Canada, Alberta, and Quebec, as well as by Canadian and international foundations, individuals, businesses, and partner organizations.

5. CIHR Health Research Training Scholarships
The CIHR Health Research Training Programs fund undergraduate, Master’s, Doctorate students, and postdoctoral researchers in health-related fields.
They are primarily intended for Canadian citizens and permanent residents, but some programs target international researchers, especially to encourage global collaborations. Emphasis is placed on academic excellence and research diversity, supported through direct scholarships and strategic initiatives. Each program has its own eligibility criteria.

6. Mitacs Program
The Mitacs program offers various internship and scholarship opportunities for students and postdoctoral researchers, including research internships in Canada or internationally and grants to support collaboration with businesses.
Programs such as Mitacs Accelerate, Elevate, and Globalink are open to Canadian and international students. These initiatives are partially funded by the Canadian government and provide financial support for applied research across multiple disciplines.

7. Trudeau Foundation Scholarships
The Trudeau Foundation Scholarship aims to develop committed leaders through a three-year leadership program. It equips exceptional doctoral candidates with the skills needed to transform their ideas into actions that benefit their communities, Canada, and the world.
Each year, the foundation awards scholarships to up to 16 national and international doctoral students. Trudeau Scholars receive up to $60,000 per year for three years to cover tuition fees, living expenses, networking, travel allowances, and language learning activities.

8. Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships
The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships, funded by the Canadian government, offer CAD 50,000 per year for three years to support exceptional doctoral students in the fields of social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, and health.
They aim to attract world-class researchers and strengthen the research capacities of Canadian universities. A Canadian institution must nominate the candidates, who must demonstrate leadership, academic excellence, and research potential.

9. Canadian International Development Scholarships 2030
The Canadian International Development Scholarships 2030 (BCDI 2030), funded by the Canadian government, offer education and training opportunities in Canada for Master’s and Doctorate students from 26 eligible countries. This program supports skill development in priority areas aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Canadian and international institutions receive applications through partnerships.
