VLIRUOS is the operational agency of the Flemish University Council, focused on university cooperation for development. It funds scholarships and partnerships between Flemish academics (from the non-French-speaking region of Belgium) and partner institutions in Africa, Latin America, and Asia, with an emphasis on global sustainable development.
Benefits of VLIRUOS ICP Connect Scholarships
VLIR-UOS ICP Connect scholarships fully cover tuition fees and provide a monthly stipend to students. Additionally, beneficiaries receive comprehensive health insurance and round-trip airfare between their home country and Belgium. An installation allowance is also provided to ease their arrival in Belgium. Finally, costs related to the program, such as study visits and internships, are covered.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the VLIRUOS scholarship, you must:
- Nationality: Be a citizen and resident of an eligible country at the time of application.
- Degree: Hold an undergraduate degree relevant to the chosen master’s program.
- Excellence: Demonstrate a strong academic record.
- Age: Be under 35 for initial master’s programs and under 45 for advanced master’s programs. Applicants to a bachelor’s program must be at least 19 years old.
- Language: Be proficient in the program’s language of instruction (English).
- Commitment: Commit to returning to your home country after graduation to contribute to its development.

The application deadline varies by institution and is set for either February 1, 2025 or February 28, 2025. Please check the list of deadlines accordingly.
